This enchanting man-made lake was created during the 1880s to supply Liverpool with fresh water. Its shores are surrounded by wooded hills and rising from its surface is a picturesque Gothic tower. Today, Vyrnwy is a designated nature reserve and a wonderful destination for walking, cycling, bird watching and lakeside picnics.
Rare birds that inhabit the area include peregrine falcons, common redstarts, and wood warblers. Vyrnwy is also home to many rare butterflies and dragonflies.
Local walks include a section of Glyndŵr’s Way and routes waymarked by the RSPB that lead through various bird habitats.
Lake Vyrnwy is a 25 minute drive from Glendower. You can cycle there from the park in just over an hour.
